Rare footage emerges of prime Manny Pacquiao in gruelling training session that made him eight-divis

Manny Pacquiao is one of the most decorated boxers of all time, but his success didn’t come without some seriously hard work.

Under the guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao became an eight-division champion before walking away from fighting following a decision defeat to Yordenis Ugas in 2021.

During his prime, the Filipino boxing legend was a force to be reckoned with, going to extreme lengths to be in tip-top shape for fights with Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosely, and Juan Manuel Marquez among others.

Footage from a typical Pacquiao-Roach training session was recently shared on social media by Top Rank and we are tired from just watching the 12-minute video.

Initially, ‘PacMan’ is slowly coached through pad drills by Roach, but they soon pick up the pace and he is able to show off his lightning-fast hands.

By the five-minute mark, Roach is trying to catch his breath simply from holding pads for Pacquiao who continues to bounce around the ring while waiting for his next training task.

The man who retired with 72 fights on his record takes off his gloves and moves into a fast-paced circuit designed to push his cardio to its limit.

Pacquiao does one-armed press-ups on either side of a medicine ball before stepping and jumping on a box as another coach demands he always keeps his speed up.

The former Senator of the Philippines sprinted over to his next workstation for mountain climbers, which was followed by throwing a massive ball medicine ball in the air and a slightly smaller one at someone in the gym.

Pacquiao is given a quick breather ahead of his next exercise and he uses it to take on water and practice his kicks before jumping from side to side with a weight in each hand.

Ultimately, he does the gruelling circuit several times before finishing off with press-ups on his knuckles and some shadowboxing while letting out grunts to celebrate.

Pacquiao takes a couple of deep breaths but, for the most part, seems unbothered by the workout that would have lesser men gasping for air.

It was the fitness acquired through these types of training sessions that allowed Pacquiao to reach the pinnacle of boxing and beat a wild amount of world champions.

Pacquiao also had the engine to keep winning at the top once his prime years were over.
