Ostin died in his sleep overnight.

Warner Records Co-Chairmen Tom Corson and Aaron Bay-Schuck made the announcement today but provided no further specifics.

Ostin, who was born Morris Ostrofsky in New York City on March 27, 1927, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 by Young, Simon, and SNL creator-producer Lorne Michaels.

“For him, the music — and whoever was producing the music — came first, before everything else,” Michaels said of Ostin in an interview with Stan Cronyn.
