Frankston North, VIC: Man critical after three-hour siege

A man is critical in hospital after being tasered and shot with police bean bag rounds during a three-hour siege in Melbourne’s southeast.

It started about 4.40pm on Thursday when Victoria Police officers attended a home on Hickory Crescent, Frankston North, where are 46-year-old man had barricaded himself inside.

Negotiations went on until nearly 8pm, when police tried to enter the property and were confronted with the man, who was agitated and allegedly armed with knives.

Officers used a taser on him multiple times, with no effect, so he was shot with bean bag rounds.

Police said he became unresponsive soon after his arrest.

He was given first aid before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

“The incident is currently being investigated by the Homicide Squad and Professional Standards Command have been notified as per standard procedure,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

No one else was injured in the incident, and no none else was at the property at the time.
