Five Disney Characters That Are So Not Ready for Summer
The official first day of Spring was March the 21st, and I don’t know about you, but here in Atlanta (they don’t call it Hotlanta for nothing!) the temperature is rising and time spent in my backyard tossing the ball with the pups has increased by 3000%! Of course with this seemingly perfect weather comes a few downsides as well; allergies, sunburns and to us super sensitive to the heat folks (yours truly!) even a bit of heat exhaustion if you’re not careful.
Whilst throwing a few veggie dogs on the grill recently, I was reminded of just how cruel the heat can be, not only for me, but for some of my most favorite Disney pals. From skin that easily burns, to that uncontrollable green pollen that makes you go achoooooo!! There are a few of us who simply fare far better in a cooler, more controlled climate.
Sunshine might be radiating from her ears, but it’s best if this porcelain faced princess stayed indoors as much as possible. Not only to hide from the evil queen, but to protect her snow-y white skin from the harsh electromagnetic radiation of the brightest star in the galaxy! This isn’t to say that she can’t open a window while baking a gooseberry pie and cleaning up after her seven untidy roommates – but a brisk walk as the sun goes down and some vitamin D supplements should be just what the doctor ordered in regards to a healthy amount of sun exposure. Oh and speaking of doctors, Snow, you might wanna reconsider that whole ‘apple a day’ adage…
I couldn’t make a list like this without including the number one creature, sidekick or being in general that most assuredly should limit their outside time to zero come Spring. I am of course talking about everyone’s favorite snowman; Olaf! While Arendelle has cooler temperatures in general, this doesn’t always pose a problem for our fluffy friend. But as we learned in the first Frozen film, without a little help from his friend and creator, Elsa, (first she gifted him his own personal snow cloud, then upgraded him to permafrost) he’d be doing whatever snow does in summer… probably getting gorgeously tan, that is!
So many of us are #relateable to Sneezy the dwarf right about now. My formerly silver vehicle is now green, and prescription allergy pills are a lifesaver. If stepping outside right about now is giving you all of the sniffles, just imagine what it’s like for poor little Sneezy. He is seemingly allergic to everything from air to grass and during a season when the flowers are blooming, the birds are tweeting and the bees are buzzing, take a moment of silence for one of our best Disney buddies who gets very little reprieve during this season.
You need only to take one look at our friend Beast to break out in a sweat. Covered head to toe in thick, wild fur, there is no way Beast can step outside of his gorgeous palace (which no doubt has central air) for more than a moment in the spring or summer time without panting up a storm. Those of us with furry friends of our own know the struggle of keeping them cool in the warmer weather. As a pup owner, I have a cooling pad and ice cubes after an albeit short walk. Kitty moms and dads might have a brush to thin out the coats of our beloved cats. But how do you cool down an already feisty beast when the temperature starts to rise? Oh well, Maybe he’ll be less cantankerous when he finds true love…
This one might be a bit of a stretch, but humor me here…
To the best of our knowledge, we know that the evil sea queen is, at least, part octopus. The thing about this fish is that there are bigger ones and smaller ones (very scientific, I know) and the smaller ones live in warmer water, while the large ones, enter our large species Ursula, reside in cooler temperatures. A splash of warm water or even a stroll on land in the warm weather would cause her discomfort in the very least. Which begs the question – was there an easier way, other than impaling and electrocution to take out the sea witch…? Ursula might always be dressed in a swimsuit, but she’s not ready to take on the warm water and rays that come along with summertime.
I like to say that I am a fan of weather. I love it cold in the Winter, cool in the Fall, and warm in the Spring and Summer. Of course I have the benefit of living in a region that, most of the time at least, has all four seasons (unless we skip Fall and have a second Summer, which isn’t that unusual). While many of our Disney pals, on this list and beyond, have the misfortune of having little to no tolerance to warmer weather, there are those who will be suffering along with all you folks, (if you’re wearing layers in 65 degree weather, I’m looking at you) who can’t stay warm come the winter months. There isn’t one of us, animated or not, who doesn’t have some sort of sensitivity, or at least preference to a certain type of weather. If you are on team allergy or reflective skin, grab your sunblock and tissues and sunblock and hang in there! Fall is just around the corner.
