She started her career as a model and then branched out as an actor.
Dushara Vijayan won the Miss Face of Chennai in 2017 as well as became the Miss South India second runner-up the same year.
She made her first theatrical film appearance by playing the role of Janani in the Tamil action thriller film Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari in 2019. She co-starred in the film alongside Dheeraj, Pradaini Surva, Radha Ravi, Mime Gopi, and Charle.
Along with Arya, Pasupathy, John Kokken, Kalaiyarasan, Shabeer Kallarakkal, John Vijay, Santhosh Prathap, and Anupama Kumar, Dushara Vijayan co-starred as Mariyamma (Kabilan’s wife who is a feisty woman from 1970s Madras) in the Tamil-language period sports action film Sarpatta Parambarai in 2021. The film revolves around a clash between two clans namely Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai in North Chennai and is set in the 1970s.
In order to prepare for her role in Sarpatta Parambarai, she went on to learn the North Chennai dialect and picked up specific patterns of behavior. This role earned her critical acclaim.
Dushara Vijayan brought to life the character of Anvitha in the Tamil-language slice-of-life romance drama film Anbulla Ghilli in 2022. Her co-stars in the film include Mime Gopi, Chandini Tamilarasan, and Maithreta Rajashekar.
Co-starring alongside Kalidas Jayaram and Kalaiyarasan, she was seen as Rene (Tamizh) in the Tamil-language romantic musical drama film Natchathiram Nagargiradhu in 2022. The film was directed by Pa. Ranjith.
Alongside Arulnithi and Santhosh Prathap, Dushara Vijayan co-starred playing the character of Kavitha in the Tamil-language political action drama film Kazhuvethi Moorkkan in 2023.
She was cast as Subbulakshmi in the Tamil-language romantic action drama film Aneethi in 2023. Directed by Vasanthabalan and produced by M. Krishna Kumar, Murugan Gnanavel, Varadharajan Manickam, and G.Vasanthabalan under the banner of Urban Boyz Studios, Dushara Vijayan co-starred in the film opposite Arjun Das.
